Nitroxoline is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent.
Nitroxoline selectively inhibits the synthesis of bacterial DNA and produces the action both on the following gram-positive microorganisms: Staphylococcus spp. (including S.aureus), Streptococcus spp. (including beta-hemolytic streptococci, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecalis), Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Bacillus subtilis; and the following gram-negative microorganisms: N.gonorrhoeae, E.coli, Proteus spp., Klebsiella spp., Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Enterobacter spp. Nitroxoline is also active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Trichomonas vaginalis, some species of fungi (Candida spp., dermatophytes, moulds, some causative agents of deep fungal diseases).
Indications for use:
infectious and inflammatory diseases of urogenital tract:
— pyelonephritis; — cystitis; — urethritis; — epididymitis; — infected prostate adenoma or carcinoma caused by nitroxoline-susceptible microorganisms.
Method of administration and posology:
The medicinal product is indicated for oral administration.
For adults, a daily dose is 400-800 mg.
Dosing frequency is 3-4 times daily with a 6-8 h interval. Treatment course is 2-3 weeks.
In chronic urinary tract diseases, the medicinal product may be prescribed repeatedly in 2-week courses with a 2-week interval.
The average daily dose for children over 5 years old - 0.2-0.4 g (0.05-0.1 g 4 times daily), for children under 5 years old - 0.2 g daily.
For prophylaxis of infections during surgery on kidneys and urinary tract, 0.1 g per intake 4 times daily for 2-3 weeks is prescribed.
For children, a daily dose of 10-30 mg/kg per 3-4 intakes is prescribed.
Shelf life:
4 years. Do not use the medicinal product after the expiry date.
