Furazolidone is an antimicrobial agent, a derivative of nitrofurans. Microbial resistance develops slowly. Nitrofurans action results in decreased production of toxins by microorganisms, and due to it, the improvement of general patient's condition is possible even before expressed inhibition of microflora growth occurs.
Compared to many other antimicrobial drugs, they not only do not suppress, but activate the body immune system.
It is active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, Trichomonas spp., Giardia lamblia. The following species are the most susceptible to furazolidone: Shigella dysenteriaе, Shigella flexneri spp., Shigella boydii spp., Shigella sonnei spp., Salmonella typhi, Salmonella paratyphi.
- Indications for use:

- food toxicoinfection;
- dysentery;
- paratyphoid fever;
- giardiasis.
- Method of administration and posology:

For oral administration, after meal.
In food toxicoinfection, dysentery, paratyphoid fever:
100-150 mg 4 times daily (but not more than 800 mg) for 5-10 days.In giardiasis - for adults, 100 mg 4 times daily.

The highest dose for adults: 200 mg; a daily dose - 800 mg.
- The medicinal product can be used in children over 3 years old.

The dose for children is calculated as 10 mg/kg/day with division into 3-4 intakes.
